"Entrevías is the neighborhood, the station... and the sound framework of the present recording..." Jósé San Martín
Drums recorded one day in September 2016, while testing an audio interface. After a few years, on some of them, musician friends recorded their part, in a rather improvised way, just like the drums were recorded. The guest musicians recorded in their homes... (or so I think!)

ENTREVIAS, by José San Martín
Entrevías is a very enjoyable album with several characteristics that make it special. It emerged and evolved in a way that is not common in the musical world: its foundations were drum recordings, made spontaneously by José San Martín, with the aim of testing an audio interface. Later, the musician decided to invite some of his friends to record, also improvisedly, on top of those bases. The result is this album that is being released by Koshkil Records. Its quality and sensitivity make it a must-listen.
“Entrevías” opens up to the audience a different sensory universe and the possibility of delving deeply, but without density, into the magical planet of drums. It has 13 themes and 5 of them are drumming moments. It is worth clarifying that they are brief, the longest being 2 minutes 40 seconds long. In these 5 rhythmic spaces it is evident that José San Martín does not create "just rhythm" (Solo Ritmo) but also "images" (Imágenes) and frameworks that take us to the experience called candombe, jazz, funk and more.
In the other 8 tracks, mostly duets, there’s the enjoyable participation of great musicians, among whom the participation of Hugo Fattoruso stands out. He is one of the highest musical authorities of Uruguay, the native country of San Martín. Fattoruso, who is co-author of two themes, has the peculiar ability to expand the color spectrum, contributing with his unmistakable imprint of presence and freedom with both the keyboard and the accordion.
It may call the listener’s attention the wide range of great bass players who participated in 6 of the tracks. Each one with his professional imprint and distinctive sound makes listening to this album a fascinating bass adventure. Only one of the tracks has guitars, played by Tato Moraes and Sergio Menem, and the wide sound palette is completed with the sax of Marcelo Peralta (RIP), the chekerés contributed by percussionist Albana Barrocas, the cellos and voices of Sergio Menem, and other contributions of voices and percussion by José San Martín (djembé, Larkin drum, caxixis, piano drum, darbuka and krakebs).
Similar to some literary styles, this album invites you to listen to it in more than one way. First, logically, in the order proposed by the author. You should also listen separately to tracks 2, 4, 6, 9 and 11 and immerse yourself in the world of percussive exclusivity. Also, do not miss the
joy of listening while investigating the kaleidoscope of experience with the bass players in the songs: 3 (Santiago Greco), 5 and 7 (Juan San Martín), 12 (Toto Sobieski) and 8 and 13 (Federico Righi).
“Entrevías” is a World Music experience that looks especially towards that corner located in the southern hemisphere of the planet, on the Río de la Plata, where the great candombe, murga, jazz, funk and other styles actively coexist. José San Martín and all the participating musicians offer the listener a new experience of excellent quality. This album, which originated and was ellaborated in the authenticity of improvisation, implies a concrete and valuable contribution to music.
